It's that time again...

Time to shift into drive, step on the gas peddle and run over somebody... preferably the Red Sox.

If the Yanks have any hopes of making the postseason or ya know, not completely making a fool of themselves... now would be the time to step it up and kick some ***. Given the consistent inconsistency from this team all season, no one knows what will happen this next series with the Wild Card leaders, but everyone knows that the Yanks should be going for the sweep. 2 of 3 is not good enough when you're 5 games back and the clock is moving double speed. It's getting late early.

Side Notes:

- I missed some of it but did Pav actually pitch this season, not have to hear the word surgery and get a win? The end of the world must be near.

- It's heeeere: Instant Replay. I'm glad to announce that people listen to me. Instant replay will be introduced on Thursday [on Friday for the Yanks, as it can only be introduced at the start of a series] to get boundary calls right [aka home run balls]. However, here's the twist: The crew chief will determine if replay is needed on a play, the umps will review the video and the final call will be left soley up to the crew cheif... or in other words: the umps gets their calls questioned [which I assume would not make them feel peachy] and then still get to make the call. It may be just me but that kind of sounds like what we have now. On top of that, if any manager argues after that call is made it's instant E-Jection. Seriously, when did umps become the Gods of baseball? Can they get any more power?

The Return Of Pava-Oh-No

Yes, the guy doctors and specialists love, Mr. I-Need-A-Band-Aid himself, will be making his return from the his favorite place in the whole wide world, the DL, to take the start against the Orioles on Saturday. The guy that defines injury prone will be attempting to fill the not so secure 5th spot in the rotation by, dare I say it?... pitching decent and not breaking a nail. He should consider himself lucky though that he's not making his first start back from the DL at home because he would need definitely need to pitch with a paper bag over his head if he showed his face in Yankee Stadium. I guarantee that a loud boo wouldn't be the only thing he would have to endure. Plus, can you imagine how the fans would react if he served up a blowout at the stadium [if his first start was at home] on top of everything? I would not be surprised if he ended up with some beer on his uniform that wasn't there when he put it on. I'm interested to see what happens on Saturday. It would almost be the funniest thing in the world if in the first inning he sprains his ankle or something. They better have the stretcher ready.

They're Aliiive. . . For Now

Apparently they aren't out of breath just yet...

15 runs. All I have to say is: took you long enough. I get it though, you wanted to be fashionably late right? The Yanks are now 5 back in the WC... how two wins can change everything. 5 looks a hell of a lot more manageable. Please let this be the turnaround.

Side Notes:

- The Mooooose train made stop number 16 and is still rolling toward 20.

- The creature named Jeter has awakened... avg. is pushing toward .300.

- The future legendary God named A-Rod is still driving them over the fence... this time when the Yanks need the long shot.

- The speed threat named Brett is determined to remain with the team, racking up two more hits today, no sweat.

- The... I got nothing for Cody Ransom... but the newby smacked one out in his first at bat in pinstripes. Kudos.

- Hughes will be pitching in Scranton in about 20ish minutes from now. If all goes well, his next start will likely be with the team.

A Walk-Off Win? Gasp Hell Just Froze Over

It took them 5 hours and 13 innings to get it but finally, a win.

It's kind of sad that it took that long for the Yanks to beat the Royals, but a win, however they get it, is a miracle for this team. It's almost funny that [with the 3 errors by KC] the only run the Yanks "earned" today was the winning one. Like I said though, a win is a win.

Side Notes:

- Say hello to your starting center fielder for the next 39 games. After the send down of Melky Cabrera, Brett Gardner, with 3 hits in today's game, is getting his shot and taking it. That's his second walk-off hit this season.

- With another quality outing, ~~Sidney Ponson~~ [wait, I got that right the first time] Sidney Ponson is now officially a legitimate starter... who'd a thunk it?

- I think it's time to sing a line from my favorite song: Wilson, Wilson, go away. Don't come back ~~another day~~ ever.

- Now 6.5 back [until the completion of the game in Boston] in the Wild Card, the Yanks need to win... say 30 more times?

The Yanks will be beginning a three game set against the Royals at home tonight before going back on the road to face the Blue Jays and Orioles. Pettitte will take the mound for the Yanks and face Gil Meche for the Royals.

Game Time: 7:05

The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms so I don't know if the game will happen but if it does stop by for the in-game chat. I'm having trouble with the chat window that I used last time. For now we're going to have to stick with the back and forth comments.

Updates:

5:30: Melky has been sent down and Sexson has been released. The Yanks have called up Gardner and Cody Ransom. The Yanks are making moves now?

5:36: Forgot to mention that Giese was sent to DL the other day from the same injury suffered by Joba. Rasner will likely make the start Tuesday. Hughes will make his next start in the minors on Sunday and will likely return after that... though by then it might be too late.

5:44: Also, Britton has been called up for the bazillionth time to be the long man I assume with Giese out.

7:03: Rain Delay. Great, already something to boo at.

7:32: Still raining in the Bronx...

8:04: Time to watch the Olympics. How long you think before they call the game?

8:36: Finally the game will begin.

8:43: And Pettitte works a quick 1-2-3 to start things off.

8:58: Guys, is it seriously that hard? Pretend the bases are empty if you have to but, jeez start driving in runs already.

9:08: The Royals score first on a sac fly. Trade an out for a run... seems like a good concept. What do the Yanks trade outs for? Nothing.

9:21: It's kind of funny that as soon as a runner makes it to second base the strikeouts ensue. Already it seems like more of the same. This season has been an embarrassment to the Cathedral.

9:27: Melky who? Gardner says he can flash a little leather too.

9:31: Jeet is on first. Whatever you do A-Rod, do not move him to second. He'll be in scoring position. It'll ruin everything. Hit a homer.

9:36: Jeter steals second. Damn. Now the Yanks won't be able to score.

9:40: What did I say?

9:41: It's like clockwork. Someone makes it to second... strikeout, strikeout.

9:57: Pettitte is holding them down tonight but again, the offense doesn't even qualify to be called an "offense".

10:16: For anyone watching the Olympics... wow. Phelps wins another gold. He wins the 100m butterfly by one one hundredth of a second.
And the Yanks are now down by three... ugh.

10:20: Hold the phone. Did the Yanks just drive in a run with runners in scoring position? Apparently it's a day for miracles.

10:25: Only one though... at this rate the Yanks would tie in the 15th.

10:30: Pettitte works another scoreless. I bet it's all for naught.

This is a first: I'm going to have to end the in-gamer early because I have some things I have to take care of. This game hasn't been all that exciting any way. [They'll probably make a comeback after I stop watching just to screw with me.] Much thanks to EJ & Level for stopping by.

The Yanks do know that they have to win to ~~make the playoffs~~ not embarrass themselves, right?

Oh, I forgot, they get paid no matter what... I guess I wouldn't care either.

Side Notes:

- I can't believe I'm saying this but... forget the f-ing homer. Watching a home run from the Yanks isn't even exciting anymore because they never hit one with runners on. The pop ups are getting on my last nerve. What is it... a simple single isn't prestigious enough for you? Well guess what: neither is a pop up or a loss. The only guy I expect to swing for the fences every time is Big G because seriously, how many singles is he going to get?

- The word on Giese is "stiff shoulder"... I can't put my finger on it but where have I heard that before? The amount of injuries hitting the Yankees is getting ridiculous. The baseball Gods are serious haters.

- I'm thinking about another in-game live chat for Friday. Tell me if you guys are up for it. The Yanks will be playing the Royals so I expect a win. Then again...

I don't own an Angels cap, but if I did it'd be in flames right now.

I HATE HATE HATE the Angels.

- Fox really outdid themselves today. They were coming dangerously close to being worse than ESPN. Seriously, what commentator says "And they execute the run and hit" & "I know that sounds wishy-washy but..."?

- If Boston wins tonight... it's pretty much all over.

- Almost forgot to mention... Thank you Giese for doing your job. Teach Kennedy a thing or two will ya?

Edit: I'm tired of seeing players relaxed or saying "That's part of the game" after a big loss... You're human. If you're mad, get mad. If you're not mad after that, then you don't care. If you don't care, don't play.

Well that went well...

Can someone tell me what is with these two teams? The Angels don't just beat the Yankees... the Yanks either gift wrap the win and hand it on over to them or the Angels use forces beyond nature to steal it.

The young gun the Yanks were counting on tonight did not do what he was put out there to do... and yet, although the Angels did hit some hard, they beat Kid Kennedy on pure luck bloopers in the bottom of the 3rd.

Ugh... I hate the Angels.

Side Notes:

- Since when has our bullpen been comprised solely of Brian Bruney? The guy has been brought in 5 times in the last 7 games. Granted, the last time he only faced a batter but still... Edwar was just kicking back, as was Robertson. I know Joe G. wanted to go with the vet but...

Mighty Moose Shuts Down Ranger Offense For 15th

What does it take to shut down an offense that can light up scoreboard? Hint: A man pushing 40. Answer: Yep, Mike Mussina. The Moose, who pitched 7 shutout innings tonight to earn his 15th win of the season, is making a run for possibly his first Cy Young award this year. With a crumbling rotation, an offense that does what is wants, when it wants and two teams ahead of the Yanks in the standings, Mike Mussina is single-handedly keeping this team in contention.
Despite facing a team with an offense that has become the new "bombers" in a must win game [as all games are these days] Bullwinkle was not fazed and kept them scoreless through 7, where the bullpen took over and continued the trend. Bruney took care of a batter, Marte finished up the 8th and Mariano notched save #28 in the 9th. As for the offense... it was pretty much what it has been all year: somewhat there, but unable to get big hits with runners in scoring position. Jeet started things off with a solo shot to put the Yanks on the board in the first. The Capt'n clearly broke out of his slump tonight [about time] with 3 hits tonight and 2 RBIs. Despite scoring...

          I barely even watched this game so I won't attempt a recap tonight, but thank jeezus the Yanks won. If the Yanks had fallen another game tonight they might as well have pulled out the shovels and started digging their own grave.
          On to the point of this post: I've decided to semi-move this blog on over wordpress. I say semi because I will likely be doing a "mirror site" type of thing, making breifer [dictionary check?] posts here and linking you guys to the full post at my new site. Well, that's the plan. I'll see where things go.

So Pittsburgh Wasn't Stupid After All - [Joba Update]

Sounded like a pretty ingenious trade for the Yanks and a downright giveaway for the Pirates, am I right? [rhetorical question]

Well take a look at what two of these guys in the trade just did:

Jeff Karstens - The guy just went 9 innings surrendering just 2 hits my friends, and had a perfect game going into the 8th. Oh and by the way, he also had two hits, facing Randy Johnson I might add. Since joining the Pirates Karstens has made two starts, earning a win in both. 15 innings, 7 hits, 0 runs.

Damaso Marte - The guy gave up a walkoff grand slam on Monday night to lose the game for the Yanks. Since joining the Yankees Marte has pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 6 earned runs and 4 walks while still somehow managing to strike out 8.

The trade still looks good for the Yanks with Nady tearing it up... but Pittsburgh isn't looking so retarded now huh?

Side Notes:
- Abraham is reporting that Joba has been placed on the 15-day DL [also reported by the Daily News and NY Post] while Chris Britton has been called up. Still no word on what the Doc has said but I have a feeling we won't be seeing Joba anymore. Ian Kennedy will be starting on Friday in place of Joba, while Dan Giese starts on Saturday.
- OMFG, Tampa won again today, despite being down 7 - 4 in the bottom of the ninth. They hit two blasts to score 6 runs in the last inning to win the game. What is with this team? When did they become the Yankees?

Here's The Updated Story On Joba:
"This from Brian Cashman: Chamberlain has what is being described as rotator cuff tendinitis. He will be rested for "about a week" and then start a throwing program after being evaluated again.

He will return to New York.

Just for your own reference: "tendinitis" is a nice way to say he has a little tear in his rotator cuff.
