can't even explain how hurt I am right now that Moose has decided to
finally hang up the uniform. There are very few pitchers in the game
that I personally enjoy watching no matter if they're having a good day
on the mound or not, and Mike Mussina is one of them. He isn't going
after the big 3-0-0, but he's a Hall of Famer in my eyes, hands down.

I know that many Yankees fans are sorry to see him retire. As a Red Sox fan - I hope he has a long and happy retirement!

Lol, I bet you are. I'll laugh if he wants to come out retirement next year.

I have to admit, I'm a little surprised to see "Moose" retire, too. How many pitchers get to retire on top (20-win season)? Not many. I guess he doesn't concern himself with the 300 win club like Randy Johnson does, eh?
270 wins...over 2800 strikeouts...career 3.68 ERA...=Hall of Fame.
Nice blog-when you get a chance, stop by mine (I just put up my first video).

Good riddance! Has this guy ever smiled in his life? Haha. Seriously though, I have always enjoyed watching him pitch, especially when his knuckle curve was nasty. He is definately a HoFer in my eyes, even if he didn't win 20 this year.

Not surprised at all that Moose retired but sad about it - just because he was such a mainstay in the rotation. He was so trashed by the fans (including me) for his '07 performance, but he made adjustments and came back strong last year. A HOF-er in my opinion. No steroids. No drama. Just consistency over the long haul.

As a Yankees fan, I have to disagree. I am happy to see him go. He was good, but not great. Let's jut hope Phil Hughes has what it takes to be at least a No. 5 starter this season.

Happy Youngster - Eh, I guess I'm kind of glad that he decided to go out on his own terms and not try and keep playing just for a milestone like a lot of pitchers do, but I am not ready to see him go.
Greg - Ahh, yes. The knucklecurve, when he was spot on, was just beautiful. And true, even if he hadn't gotten 20 this year, I still would want to see him in the HOF. Argh, I just wished he'd pitch at least one more year. :(
Jane - I will be the first to admit that I too trashed Moose when his performance was as horrible as you could get in '07, but there wasn't ever a time when I wasn't rooting for him to do well. I couldn't be any more happy for him that he got his comeback year. That consistency over the long haul has definitely defined Moose. What I think is so great about him is how he has the capability to dominate, even with a fastball in the 80's. He's a fighter though.
Max - Ouch.. just dissed my boy. Well, you're entitled to your own opinion here, but if it differs from mine you're just wrong. Lol, jk. I can see how you'd think he was just good and not great, as he doesn't have the stuff guys like Joba and such are blessed with, but the guy has a career record with 100+ more wins than losses... that didn't come easy.

I, too, would love to see Moose come back--but only if he doesn't embarass himself. It would be just awful to see him go out on top, then come back and ruin his legacy.

Neal - I completely agree. Coming back from retirement is only a good idea if you're still capable to dominate. If not, you'll just be laughed at, or worse, as you said, you'll probably ruin the reputation you've worked for.

I won't miss that 2-seamer he always ran back to the inside corner for K's! Well at least against the Jays everytime he pitched! He was an excellent Yankee though, agreed!
